Greetings Everyone!

I would like to inform the SELECTserver and Product Activation community that on Wednesday, April 23rd I will be “on call virtually” here as a Domain Expert. This means that I will be LIVE in the community from 8 AM - 5 PM PDT (UTC -07:00) answering questions you have about all things related to topics covered in this community. During that time, I will:

• Look at Support Solutions wiki articles and add and update information that will help you.
• Post answers to questions in the forum.
• Verify answers in the forum.

Using MicroStation V8.5 for a legacy project. Is it possible to modify the MSV8.LIC file to point to the select server to get a license, instead of our company license server? If so, what would the SERVER= line be?

Is it possible to change the way dates are shown in reports? I'm english so would prefer to see 16/04/14 instead of 04/16/14.

Found this below but the link is a dead end. I search for Licensing with Select Server and not coming up with any information.

Phil C directed me in another thread to have a look at the post by JBenoit http://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/f/275813/p/94262/276243.aspx#276243 

regarding under usage. The post states:

I would like to address the comments about underuse of licenses. Please remember that license pooling remains a benefit with SELECT Open Access. License pooling dramatically improves your software ROI by allowing licenses to be shared and streamlining asset management and allocation of project work. The SELECT Open Access subscription enables subscribers to share licenses across all sites within a given country.

…which doesn’t answer the question! In fact it does anything but answer the question.

I have spoken to our Account Manager about this but  I was palmed of to someone else who also didn’t answer the question of under usage.

All not very helpful.

If out of 90 days I over use 12, then 78 are underused, At what point does the calculation work out that we should be billed? Is it 46 over and 44 under, or what?

Please could Bentley can confirm how under usage is calculated?

I'm still confused as to when this billing for over usage started or is to start. I have seen things that it started at the beginning of this year and. I have seen an email from Bentley sent out in February which talks about Open Access but doesn't really explain,

I'm assuming that it will start at the next SELECT renewal (September for us) as this contractually things wont change until we re-sign.

Please could someone at Bentley let me know.

Hello,

  I have run into some apparent product overages within our company over the first quarter of 2014.  It appears that is the case with many of the users on this forum.  While i don't necessarily agree with the invoicing at our minimal overages, it is what it is, as they say.  I have come here to look for help in creating a system where this doesn't ever happen again.  My manager is not interested in dealing with quarterly invoices, and i being in the Field from time to time, need to employ some kind of restriction to enforce limits while i am away, and save us from extra costs.  

  I have looked around at the tools in the SelectSERVER and noticed many restrictions available by IP Address, or Custom Activation Group etc. however was hoping to get some advice on what works best for you, or of any How-To articles on how to set something up.  We are a small engineering firm with a total of 10 seats, however we have a few satellite offices across the state and need some way to make sure this doesn't happen again.  Thanks very much in advance, and i will report anything i find!

Thanks fro the information but are you, Bentley, having a laugh? This information is about 5 - 6 months too late. Perhaps this would have been beneficial at the same time as you should have told us about the licence change that you have forced on us.

The Open Access program is Bentley's way of mandating and dictating customers how to govern their use of licenses and software expenditures.  Opting into this will:

1. Prevent you from adhering to your budgets with unexpected overage costs

2. Take away customers governance and now Bentley will dictate to you how to run your licensing and software expenditures

Its a bad deal and an example of arrogance I have not seen in a long time by a software vendor.

Hi,

We are having issues updating our SELECTserver license. We tried to upgrade the license following the instructions located here:

and we were able to follow the instructions, see our two site licenses listed and then we proceeded to click "Accept".

However at that point we received the following error:

An Error Has occurred:

The SELECTserver license as expired

http://SERVERNAME/bss/admin/RequestLicense.aspx?Msg=RequestLicenseMsgText&hl=hlUpdateLicense


Now whenever we go back to the upgrade page and try to perform the operation again we can't even get as far as the page that showed our two site licenses and we get the above error immediately.

Any help would be appreciated.

Three weeks ago, we have received the mail "SELECT subscription changes for 2014".

We currently use Select Server deployed and manually transmit the usage logs once a month. Our PCs don't have an internet access. Is that use without Internet connexion still possible with your new SELECT Open Access? (it seems that the answer is no)

I have checked that we currently cannot no more download updates with SELECT services (except Bentley iware and Mobile Apps). Do we have to register to SELECT Open Access to have access to the downloads?

Early this year, we were asked to chose between Select Open and Select Basic Licensing.  A few weeks ago, we had been billed on some over usage on some software.  For our better control on the usage, we prefer NOT to opt neither of the above licensing scheme but to keep our OLD Select Licensing.  Where it is impossible for any over usage and no Quarterly Bill.

Pls advise and confirm, can we revert back to OLD Select Licensing?

Hi,

I just got notifications from my ESET anti virus software saying the the Bentley IP's have been blacklisted, so it blocked my license/log transmittals.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Please see the attached log export.

EDIT: I just used the Activation wizard-It tells me that I do not have access to the site, and ESET gives me more warning with an IP address of 137.117.66.229 .

So, It appears to me that Bentley has changed it's licensing system from helpful to a scam. 

About 3 months ago I was contacted by an "account representative" that told me that I had several occasions where I was over the number of licenses that I had purchased, which wasn't possible....since I am a 5 person firm with only THREE users, and have THREE licenses of Microstation, I was told by this "Account representative" that I needed to sign up for a different licensing agreement or I would be assigned the more expensive one without it being my choice. So I did...I agreed to "Select open access"...this was suppose to be the best solution to me according to this account rep.

This week I got a "WARNING" that I would be recieving a punitive invoice for OVER USE of my agreed license unless I purchased another copy of microstation, and was sent a spreadsheet that showed 4 days over the past 3 months that there were 4 uses of Microstation.....the impending invoice is $5000. 

The best part is that the FORTH license is being reported from a computer that is only used by a remote person to remote desktop into to connect to our server, not a forth employee.

I have asked this "Account representative" to give me his supervisors information and so far he has refused.

Does usage logs use always local time and not server time? Also what happens if doing check-in before checkout expiration, does it uses server time or local time? This is important in case computer clocks are not synchronized.

For example if real time on server now is 12:01 but for one of computers local time is 11:55 and on other computer 12:05. If one of computer checks in at 11:55  and other checks-out license at 12:05 (simultaneously according to server time) does it count as 2 usages from 12:00-13:00 or as 1 usage in 11:00-12:00 and other in 12:00-13.00?

Our local select server was on server "A". We have set up a new server "B" because "A" will be decommissioned.

We realize that we can go to each client machine and manually run the Product Activation tool and change the server name from "A" to "B", but we have dozens of client machines with a variety of products to configure.

Network licensed Autodesk products respond to a Windows environment variable (which of course we can set using Group Policy).....SO....is there some similar way to remotely change the SelectServer to which all of our client machines point without having to physically visit each machine?
