Problem with the services Bentley Select Server and Bentley Select Server Gateway
Today I have the Select Server 8 installed and running on the server with Windows Server 2003 and SQL2000.
I have to make a Select Server migration to another server and I have some problem.
I am trying to install the Select Server 9 on the server with Windows Server 2008 X 64 and SQL 2008, after installing, the services Bentley Select Server and Bentley Select Server Gateway does not start, when I try to manually start the error occurs: Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly and the Select Server V8i Administration Site not start.
Does anyone have this same problem? Could you please help me?

SELECTserver Usage Report not updating
I have just tried to check our usage for the last quarter but the report stops at 26/06/14. When can I expect this to be update to include up to the end of the month and to obtain Q2's statement?
80% rise on PowerCivil Select fee? Why?

What is the reason to rise the select fee by 80% of PowerCivil for UK?
It's became a so powerful and good product in the last few months?
We have all the functions than we had in the old GEOPAK version of PowerCivil SS2? (Difference grid, etc.)
Will be able to create a terrain model of 50.000 points without crashes? (Now I can't in SS3, and but I can in SS2)
Will be able to change models in a file of 10 MB without crashes? (Now I can't in SS3, and but I can in SS2)
Can I control the license usage or you just send the overuse bills?
Why is the select fee? Why worth it for ME?
Why the bills are the ONLY communication form between you and me (the user) that you know in the recent years?

Sites missing from SELECT server
I use to be able to see our non-SELECT sites at https://selectserver.bentley.com/ but can't now. Any reason for this?

How can I 'use' my license 0-24 when I am 200 km away from my office? (This was a sunday, when I was an organiser of a sport event)
How does your license registration system is working if I have overuse everyday when I use my SW since 1 Jan 2014 when this OpenAccess madness started?

How do I configure a pre-XM product license install (Microstation V8 for example) to point to one of our 22 specific license pools in GATEWAY?
We are migrating to using the Bentley Hosted license manager from our locally hosted license manager and need to know how to configure GATEWAY to allow access to all of our 22 license pools.
Our current (Microstation) license files look like this: SERVER="server-name" PORT="1000x" (where PORT = one of our license pools).
The GATEWAY doc that I could find in your website explains how to point to GATEWAY, but not a specific license pool.
From the doc on the Bentley website:
- Change the LIC files used by your V8 2004 or earlier Bentley products to contain a single line:
- SERVER=GatewayName
- Replace GatewayName with the computer name that is running your SELECTserver Gateway.
an error has occurred while attempting to verify the server and activation key
Recently the activation prompt diplayed when i started Microstation, which typically indicates I hadn't transmitted logs in the last 30 days. Typically, I can just access the admin site page and take care if this slight issue with little effort. However, this time i receive the error message "an error has occurred while attempting to verify the server and activation key" when I attempted to activate and when I couldn't access the admin site page either.
Nothing has changed lately, so this was surprising.
We have a Deployed (local) selectserver Version 08.11.08.25 and i can't acces the admin site page.

Select Server 64 on Windows 2012 server

Is the ss64090000112en installable on a Windows 2012 Server? If yes, how to work around the '..not supported operating system..' error during install?
If No (cannot be installed on 2012) , is there a planned version of SS to support the Windows Server 2012 and what would be the ETA?

Open Access Complaint
I am part of a structural engineering consulting firm that uses several structural analysis software(s) from RAM/Bentley. We have been satisfied with the software up until around a month ago when the comically absurd pricing scheme was explained upon us.
The "Quarterly Hour Usage" billing concept is … so illogical that it defies the descriptive powers of my vocabulary. If the price of their software needs to increase to meet their business goals, then Bentley should raise their prices. I can review the increased costs, compare it to the benefit of having/using the software, and then make annual budgeting decisions.
For those who are not familiar with the 'hourly usage' concept, here is how it works: if one engineer uses the software from 9am until 10.15am, and then a separate engineer, on a different computer uses the same software beginning at10.30 am, then that counts as the use of 2 licenses. In reality, the software usage has not exceeded the license limit; however, according to Bentley, it has… it has been used twice within the same arbitrary hour. (consider an analogy of renting ONE bicycle …you ride it for part of an hour, and then your spouse rides the same bike for the remainder of the "same" hour … you return the bike, and are charged for TWO bicycles …b/c 2 people rode the same bike …within the same hour!?!?!? )
I am lost as to why Bentley would do this. It appears to be irritating several customers. So far as I understand, Bentley offers no method to actively limit (real-time) the usage within each hour.
I've had several conversations with 3 different Bentley people so far. Each has mildly expressed sympathy towards my frustrations, yet each has been unable to offer any solution. They have each noted that I am not the only firm who is disappointed with this unique billing concept, and suggested I write to their forum, so that "management" can see the complaints of their customers.
Reluctantly, I have done so. Not only am I frustrated, now I am irritated: not only is the burden of monitoring the usage of their software forces on me, now explaining why is also my responsibility… and I am the customer !?
The SELECTserver license as expired
I'm receiving the error "The SELECTserver license as expired" on my Select Server. I've gone through the steps here: http://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/3281.aspx but this has not fixed the issue. When I got through the step to request/update the license, I get the error "No sites found requiring update. SELECTserver will continue to use the existing license file."

Server log file / wrong time stamp
We have defined site time zone to be UTC +1h, but I don't think the license logs are correct.
Application Usage By Hour shows that license logs are stamped by UTC.

Usage restrictions possible after all?
Probably it is possible to restrict usage without third party software after all.
Select Server has these settings on the first page. Now if one would check both of them below and enter a max number of licenses to be able to checkout, wouldn't that solve the problem?
One thing left is that I don't know how SelectServer deals with multiple checkouts during the same hour.
Staad.Pro license usage
We are questioning the correctness of the logs from Bentley for our Staad.Pro usage.
As we had to pay for an overage for Staad.Pro in the last quarter, we have immediatly implemented an third party software solution to stop that. We are now using K2 keyserver from Sassafras.
But even after implementing that solution we have now run into an overage, which we deny is happening. Currently we are investigating this problem also with Sassafras, and are quite sure that specific usage never happened, but in fact were denied.

License Download?
I asked our Bentley representative about arranging a quarterly rental for a new application (which we have trialled through a service ticket) and his response (the relevant part of it) was this:
"Once you are signed to OA you then simply download the license from our server and install as usual, no need to issue a PO, you will be billed at the end of each calendar quarter, based on you final usage, thus it is critical that you do not open more licenses than you require, please note usage is calculated on a per hour basis ( ie if you open and close the application twice between 2-3pm or 2-4pm, etc this will register as 2 usages)."
Can anyone tell me what "download the license from our server" means?
I have never noticed, not can I now find anywhere to download a license from.
Does he mean just download the software, use it and then pay at the end of the quarter? That doesn't work! We already downloaded the software and although it wouldn't license (restricted mode only) it recorded usage against 3 suites simultaneously - needless to say we are already in dispute over that invoice.
Access Denied
I filed a SR 7000220059 Monday morning on this and have not heard form anyone, it Wednesday afternoon. I understand that there is a conference going on and the troops may be thin but my SELECTserver service will stop at midnight and I'll have 14 dozen emails when I come in tomorrow morning.

I ran the logs manually as usual then went to post them at http://ssla.bentley.com/Logposting/ManualLogPosting.aspxas usual and filled in the info and submitted. All I get there is the spinning icon, it doesn't even time out although I let it run for a couple of hours. That's when I filled my SR sent them a screen shot and sent my usage logs. I went back to SS Manual Log Transmittal and clicked on

and this is the response I get.
Select Server Administration site fails to open with "There is a pronblem with this windows installer package" the first time I run it
We have a select server 8 installation on Server 2008 R2 (64bit). I tried to run the "Bentley Select Server Administration Site" from the shortcut in programs\bentley\selectserver\
I get an installer error "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not run."
I am an administrator on the server. Other admins can log in fine.

What is the meaning of "Your email address on file is: No Email Currently On Record"?
OpenAccess / license file
I just went into SelectServer to check our license file after we went open access, and was a bit astonished to find that we now are licensed to use all of the Bentley products.
While this is according to what we were told, the license file doesn't provide any information anymore about what we are being charged for extra, and what not.
How do I find out about that easily on SelectServer?

How about hide Activation Key? My customer ask me : their employees can switch to another company and carry license activation in which this company will charge for their overusage.
