I have another issue. The Program STAAD.Pro is not pulling a license even though all the others are. In fact it allows us to manually check out a license but the program still will not start. This is different behavior than the other STAAD and RAM programs had previously. After a manual checkout they would start.

Microstation licenses and checkout issues
Why are Bentley products so backwards from any other software when it comes to licensing. With ESRI products 1 license = 1 user at a time that can use the product. AutoCAD - 1 license = 1 user at a time that can use the product. Microstation 1 user = unlimited amount of users can use the product......and then you get billed for going over your license limit. Heck of a deal for Bentley.
Can't they make a USB toggle like Trimble uses for trimble business center? Heck, I remember software I was using 15 years ago that had better licensing features....features that PROTECT the USER.

SELECT Server will expire..
Hello,
I have a locally deployed SELECT Server (series-2). We are using STAAD Pro V8i PERPETUAL license through this SELECT Server. My SELECT subscription expired on 1st Jan '14 and we have not yet renew the same. Few days back I got message that my SELECT server will expire on 3/1/2014.
My question is that science our license type is PERPETUAL license, SELECT Server should not expire. Is anyone can help me out why I'm getting this message?

Licensing / overuse or not
I'm having a kind of heated discussion with our new contacts in Denmark about overuse of software licenses, and would like to have a feedback from Bentley staff (or other users).
Our contact states that we are having a massive overuse of licenses and wants us to buy more licenses. According to him we are having 2 days overuse and he calculates that to 22% somehow.
In my opinion we do NOT have an overuse at all, but we have still more to go.
The average usage of licenses in this example is 1, while we do have 2 licenses. The average overusage is stated as 0 - no problem at all.

Live Chat Java security problem
Hello everyone.
I have a problem with new upgrade of Oracle Java. With it, I can't turn off security, rather putting it on medium level. So, what does it bring to me. It brings me that every time I start Live Chat it blocks LC content and returns me message: "external domain content blocked". I enabled all bentley domains in security exceptions but it blocks me because of external domain content.
Any suggestion or solutions?

Start Mstn with a script to check your own local database
Hi,
I've seen multiple discussions about license overages and trusted licensing. Has anyone thought of or developed a Windows script that would log each time Microstation is opened to a local database. Then before the script would open Microstation (or the appropriate Bentley application), it would check the local database and warn you if it's been opened on too many machines in the last hour?

New AutoPIPE Licensing Terms
I have not received a substantive response from my Bentley account manager or sales person after 3 weeks, so I am posting here. I will take a response however Bentley chooses to respond.
Given the new licensing terms for SELECT subscribers, how can I control my software costs?
Can Bentley provide a HASP key for each seat of AutoPIPE I wish to continue using?
The open ended, blank check agreement which Bentley is implementing is not acceptable. I will not require my end users's to call all people in our organization to verify how many keys are being used so we don't exceed our allotment and trigger a new bill from Bentley. Our software budgets are set ahead of time. It's not like an electric bill where we use what we use and then pay after the fact. Bentley shall continue to limit our software usage to the prepaid number of seats if they are to maintain our business.

Auto re-activate after checkout expiration [NON-SELECT]
Is there an option which would allow to reactivate license automatically(non-select) without notice after checkout is expired? We receive lot of calls from users at the same time each year that Bentley software has stopped working when in fact it just asks for activation. Using longer check-out expiration period is not an option as then licenses can be lost(not checked in) in case of PC reinstall or crash and then also users will complain that product is unusable. At least shorter periods means that licenses can free automatically after some time in such situations. We would like to find a balance.

Can't open pdf report
I set up a SS User Usage by Day report which gets delivered to my e-mail as a pdf file. I had been able to open them. Lately, however, I get an Adobe Reader error: "There was an error opening this document. The root object is missing or invalid." I'm using Reader 9.2, which I've reinstalled. I can open other pdfs just fine w/ Reader 9.2. Did the report generation mechanism change somehow?

Clash Detection in OpenPlant Manager
Would you please describe the way of licensing Clash Detection while working with OpenPlant Modeler?
Is this included with purchase price or not, what else how about numeorus users accessing the application OP Modeler with Clash Detection in STANDALONE environment, i.e. without ProjectWise and of course also when PW is 'enabled'.
How about SELECT OpenAccess billing: assuming we have 3 OPM perpetual licenses and 6 people working with this software WITH NO OVERUSE, so we share licenses, and time of accessing it to avoid overusage. Well, for OPM it is clear for me but how are usages calculated in case of Visa like Clash Detection?

License Management Tool @ SELECTServer 9

I would like to ask if there are ways that License Tool Activation take place in one configuration and not by user profile.
I have observed that whenever I installed a Bentley Products under Administrative account I used to:
then,
after activation, I logged out and login as another user but it turned out that the SETTINGS STORED FOR ALL USERS OF MACHINEwas not applied to my other user account.
In short, Is there any procedure that my first activation setting is also the activation of other user who uses the same machine to avoid redundant and repetitive activation.

Currently my company is using the SELECTserver XM Edition Products on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 edition. The 2003 edition will no longer be supported by Microsoft in 2015.
My question is will the SELECTserver XM Edition products work on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 edition?

SELECT Server Install Accounts
Hi,
I’m installing Select Server (Version 9) on a new system; we are getting some unexpected results. To aid in the resolution I’d appreciate clarity as to the type of accounts that we should be using during the setup, as the setup instructions are a little vague in this respect.
- What type of account should we be logged in as when we install SELECT Server – We believe this should be a domain account that sits in local administrators group
- When we get to the SELECT server db setup screen what account should we be using for the ‘Create Database As User’ option?
- What account should the SELECT Server Application Pool being running as – by default this seems to revert to LocalSystem – Is this correct?

Small Biz Overages (Solution)
Surprised no one has mentioned this yet-- if you want to prevent overages (since Bentley is set on killing its customer base) you simply use virtual machines.
With the advent and adoption of USB 3.0, having a 32GB flash drive as a virtual machine effectively makes the software keyed. A user must use the USB flash drive to run a virtual windows environment that has the Bentley software installed. Since the virtual machine on the USB drive has a specific computer name and its own static IP address (or spoofed MAC ID) the admin server has no idea that it is running on 15 different machines. (but only one machine per key, per license).
Problem solved.
Oh, and it works pretty good in a USB 2.0 drive as well. Virtual machines have full domain connectivity-- talk to your IT guys to make it happen.

Is Bentley planning to improvise Deployed SELECT Server licensing in 2014?
A word of mouth information is that Bentley is planning to retire Deployed SELECT Server licensing by end of 2014.
Would be great if friends at Bentley could advise me on the future path of Bentley SELECT Server (both deployed and hosted).

Data Update Service - ERROR with status code -10026 - service start time: 4/6/2014 12:00:20 AM - Could not update the support path information
We have our own selectserver and send the log files dialing to Bentley all the files are updated but this one. I checked the connection to the database and tried to resubmit and keep getting this message - any help would be appreciated.

OpenAccess / license file
I just went into SelectServer to check our license file after we went open access, and was a bit astonished to find that we now are licensed to use all of the Bentley products.
While this is according to what we were told, the license file doesn't provide any information anymore about what we are being charged for extra, and what not.
How do I find out about that easily on SelectServer?
